Dolphin Cove – More than swimming with the dolphins.

Not only is it known for its excellent customer service, unique product offering and breathtaking landscape, but Dolphin Cove, Ocho Rios also gets top marks for the meals provided at its restaurants.
After an exciting swim with the dolphins, sharks or stingrays, visitors to Dolphin Cove can enjoy laidback dining in the distinctive environment that only this attraction can provide.

Ensuring the quality of the meals are Food and Beverage manager, Ian Gardner and Executive Chef, Glenroy Gordon who, between them, have more than 50 years’ experience in the field.

“Dolphin Cove provides native and authentic dishes which are prepared using our own tested recipes,” Gardner says.  “We have a first-class chef who goes the extra mile to ensure that meals are created and served at a standard that satisfies the discerning guest.”

Famous for its delectable jerked chicken and jerked pork, the aroma from which piques your appetite and their lip-smacking sauce - under its own private label - that sends taste buds into overdrive, Dolphin Cove’s flavourful offerings will satisfy any palette.  Other items worthy of note are the rice & peas and the Escoveitch Fish.  Also available at Dolphin Cove are cheese burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, breaded cheese sticks, potato wedges and chicken nuggets.

Visitors have the option of enjoying their culinary delights at a number of locations around the property.

With a seating capacity of 90, the Pirate’s Village restaurant overlooks the dolphin and shark lagoons and provides a spectacular view of the Caribbean Sea.   Guests will enjoy the ambiance of hearing the laughter and screams of delight from participants doing their activities.  This atmosphere makes for a very enjoyable lunch.

Eating under the Palapa – a thatched-roof, open-sided restaurant - takes guests back to the time of the native Indians who probably enjoyed their meals along the edge of the Caribbean Sea in much the same way.  Refuge is provided from the hot sun while the cool sea breeze caresses the backs of diners as they enjoy the succulent lobster and other fabulous feasts while relaxing reggae music plays in the background.

So, on your next visit to Dolphin Cove, don’t forget to make a stop at the restaurants and accentuate your day with a wonderful meal.

Dolphin Cove's "Jelly Man" - Jamaica's Best

No trip to Jamaica would be complete without having some Ice Cold Coconut Water straight from the Coconut Shell.

Fresh "Jelly Coconuts"!

Dolphin Cove is lucky enough to have the best “Jelly Man” in the Island.  Mr. Paris, A.K.A Coconut Man or Jelly Man, has worked with Dolphin Cove for several years.  You can expect on your journey to the beach to hear a joyful and true Jamaican greeting from the “Jelly Man”; his favorites being “Welcome to Dolphin Cove!!!”, “Wha Gwan!” (Meaning what’s happening?), or “No Problem Man!”

Dolphin Cove's "Jelly Man", Jamaica's # 1!
Always with a smile our Jelly Man, cuts the coconuts that he keeps chilled on ice for guests to enjoy.  He loves to explain to the guests the medicinal powers that the coconut water and jelly holds.

Coconut water is a good source of many vitamins and minerals; it is used as a rehydration fluid, can help to eliminate excess alcohol from your body, and helps to maintain good kidney function.

Some guests take their coconut and relax on any one of the many complimentary beach chairs at our Pearly White Beach.  Can you imagine a more perfect tropical vacation…straight out of the movies!

Jelly Man always offers to spice up the Coconut with a little White Rum, a drink that has been popular amongst Jamaican for generations.

Coconuts, it’s water, it’s medicinal value and of course it’s delicious flavor particularly when mixed with a little rum, inspired the following lyrics from Harry Belafonte:

Coconut Woman by Harry Belafonte:

Coconut woman is calling out,
and every day you can hear her shout, x2
"Get you coconut water (Four for five!)
Man, it's good for your daughter (Four for five!)
Coco got a lot of iron (Four for five!)
Make you strong like a lion" (Four for five!)

A lady tells me the other day,
"Now, I can take a sweet man away"
I ask her, "What was the mystery?"
She said, "Coconut water and a rice curry.
You can cook it in a pot, (Four for five!)
You can serve it very hot, (Four for five!)
Coco got a lot of iron (Four for five!)
Make you strong like a lion" (Roar!)

Coconut woman says,
"You'll agree, coconut makes very nice candy.
The thing that's best when you're feeling glum,
Is coconut water with a little rum?
It could make you very tipsy, (Four for five!)
Make you feel like a gypsy. (Four for five!)
Coco got a lot of iron (Four for five!)
Make you strong like a lion." (Roar!) (Four for five!)

So make sure you complete your perfect Jamaican vacation with a visit to Dolphin Cove’s very own, and Jamaica's # 1, Jelly Man, Mr. Paris, and ask him for some Coconut Water with a Little Rum!

No Problem Man!!

Jeni Hillier - An Account from a Frequent Guest of Dolphin Cove

My best experience of Dolphin Cove is every time I have have been there.

As I arrive in the parking lot there are always welcome greetings and smiles and these greetings are everywhere I go. l find that I have a permanent smile on my face and in my heart.

I start my day off with a “Dean Special” (the best coffee) and just watch the Dolphins giving me their private show.  They just make me laugh.  I take a slow walk through the forest and enjoy listening to the water dripping off the foliage.  I check out the goats and the spiders and the birds.  It is just so peaceful.  I then wander down to the beach, where again, I get welcomed.  I settle down with my book, which I never read, as I am too busy drinking in the beautiful scenery and having great conversations with the staff and other guests.

Then!  It’s my turn to swim with the Dolphin’s.  I cannot describe the feeling of wonder that gives me.  They are so amazing and soft and their eyes seem to always have a bit of mischief in them.  I remember there was a young woman who wanted to swim with the Dolphin’s but she was so scared of the water.  The Trainer took her to the platform and got the two Dolphin’s to come up so she could feel them and have her picture taken with them.  It’s really hard to explain the total look of pleasure on that woman’s face.  I am sure she will never forget that experience and neither will I.  It was the thoughtfulness of the Trainers that made her experience complete.

Jeni hanging with her girls Beta and Cometa
Having a blast!

I also enjoyed experience the feel of the stingrays and the roughness and power of the sharks.  Something else I enjoy is going to the little bar and letting Mr. Cole surprise me with one of his special drinks and just listening to his stories.

Another highlight is watching the little school children, with the absolute joy on their faces as they dance around.  I think the staff have just as much fun too!!!

The Pirates scare me every time I walk past.  You think I would learn after the first time.  They are such fun.

Then there is the food!!!  What a banquet.  I usually eat too much as it is so hard to make choices!!

I just want to say thanks to all the management and staff who always make my Dolphin Cove visits memorable experiences.

Dolphin Cove Experience - Contestant : Rochelle Carter

My amazing experience at Dolphin Cove occurred this past March. I had never had the opportunity to swim with Dolphins before so when we decided to take a vacation in Jamaica I knew that I was doing the swim with Dolphin excursion even if nobody else in my group wanted to join me.

Dolphin Cove offers different packages but for me I knew I had to spend as much time with the Dolphins as possible and that is the swim. The ride to Dolphin Cove was great as the very knowledgeable tour guide gave us some history about Jamaica on the ride over.

When we arrived the staff was so courteous as we learned that our swim would be the last swim of the day. We had time to enjoy the shark show and shop while we waited for our turn to swim. I was so impressed with the Dolphin Trainers and the love they show for these wondrous animals. I could feel the love that the animals and trainers showed for one another by merely observing the interactions between them.

I had watched the trainers and other patrons all day so I was filled with excitement when it became our turn. Words can’t describe my experience in the water with the Dolphins. I was almost brought to tears as I experienced the swim. I always loved Dolphins but I never knew how much until that very moment. We were in the water for approximately 30 minutes. We got to touch the Dolphins and interact with them a lot during the 30 minutes. I met one lady in our group that was on her 5th excursion at Dolphin Cove and believe me when I say I can see why so many times after my encounter. The trainers were awesome and the experience is one that I hope to have many more times.

After the swim we went to the video room where the whole experience was captured on video and single pictures of yourself and the Dolphins are available to buy. I couldn’t resist I had to buy all the pictures plus the video so I could show all my friends and family what I had experienced. Since then I have had several friends that have also had the great opportunity to swim with the Dolphins at Dolphin Cove.

I am 38 years old and I have to say thank you Dolphin Cove for the absolute best experience thus far in my life!

Feel the Love!
